May Hosiery Bench

This bench has been over a century in the making. Built out of reclaimed joists from May Hosiery Mills, and finished using the Japanese tradition of shou sugi ban (charring wood to preserve it).

Located in Wedgewood Houston, May Hosiery Mills was once the largest sock mill in the South, and a pioneer of their time in both innovation and treatment of workers.

Fun facts: Neil Armstrong wore their socks when he walked on the moon. They also became one of the first Disney licensees when they embroidered Mickey Mouse on their socks. Oh boy!
